“The song started as a conversation on shrooms about how I had gotten quieter, and in the song I am picking apart my silent vulnerability to see if there's something happening inside.” _ Paris Cox-Farr
Accordingly, My Silence presents a softer and quieter side of garage-rock marauders Lofi Legs, its sound proceeding from the gentle folk-pop of streaming hit “Dreamin” But the prompt for “My Silence” came in part out of a desire to write something like Vance Joy’s “Riptide:” something that can be played on guitars in parks and at parties for all time, a pop song that’s also a rock song that’s also a folk song.
“Does my silence mean that I’m wise and mysterious or just boring and burnt out? Dealing with and reconciling the present, past, and future. Coming out of an intense breakup. Letting something die. Knowing that once you had loved each other but that it will never be. That cold feeling of total loneliness. Chain smoking outside in the cold wind. Death and rebirth. Waking up and trying to find out who you are or who you want to be. Coming of age and wanting to take on new projects.” _Paris Cox-Farr
lyrics
And my silence
Is it boring or mysterious
Well lately I’ve been curious
And a bit self conscious
I might add that
April whatcha doin later
Maybe watch some movie trailer
Of a prune in June that looks okay
Ooooos
Well I’ve been thinking
If my life was like a movie
well this would be the slow part
Where I find my way it cuts to a montage
We’re back playing in a garage
Phaedra staring at the water
It’s a cold reflection of her past
Ooooos
So just tell me
Actually wait no don’t just tell me
Cause I’ve been on a straight road
Pullin' up by my bootstraps
Dressed like a cowboy
I rain off into the sunset
Oh and sometimes I might forget
Just how beautiful this life could be
Ooooos
And my silence is it boring or mysterious
Cause lately I’ve been curious
And a bit self conscious
I won’t lie
