about

Mixed waste: any combination of plastic, metal, glass, paper and leftovers, all together with old digital gear, undefinable folders, mp3s and pictures lost forever in the oblivion of all things. Everything adds-up and blends like the sound that Leatherette create and dismember with their songs among slags, shadows and memories of tracks that overlap.
Inspired by the chaotic post-punk of bands like Parquet Courts and Viagra Boys, combined to the nocturnal and smokey atmospheres of some old Jim Jarmusch’s movies, Mixed Waste is Leatherette’s debut EP, released in two different editions: 4 songs in streaming and download on all digital platforms, or the extended version with 10 songs tied to a physical fanzine released as a limited edition via Bandcamp.

In its musical and graphic entirety then, Mixed Waste becomes something that reflects on the quantity of products made and gone to waste. A collection of songs and damaged pages made of recycled fragments and useless parts that randomly come back to life with focused energy.

Formed in 2018 in Bologna, Italy, Leatherette got the idea for their name from The Normal’s 1978 single Warm Leatherette: “we thought it sounded like a mockery of the stardom surrounding the world of rock’n roll. Fake leather - like some kind of self-irony, cheap, anachronistic, disgraced and even more punk”.
The band was started by Michele Battaglioli on vocals and guitar, Francesco Bonora on drums, Marco Jespersen on bass. As a trio they self released the demo “No Way”, then in 2019 they added Jacopo Finelli on sax and synth, and Andrea Gerardi on guitar. Their sound evolved and developed jazz atmospheres while adding punk outbursts and hints of no wave.
In 2021 the band joins the WWNBB’s roster.
