about

The first thing that strikes the listener is the light; Le Man Avec Les Lunettes are able to write music that lights up, illuminating the heart and making everything around radiant. And the songs on "Make It Happen" are full of light: 'Things To Do' is a clear spring awakening, 'Get In Touch' is pure summer sun, while 'Dancing All The Night' contains the clarity of the northern sky, and 'Summer Summer' reflects reverberations on a lake. The always sweet melodies that Le Man Avec Les Lunettes have gotten us used to, now shine in arrangements of strings generous as ever, which is one of the most striking features of this new work. Every album is a description of itself and "Make It Happen" is no exception, but perhaps it is because of the desire to fill all these years of waiting (the previous Plaskaplaskabombelibom came out in 2008 and after that the EP "Sparkles" was released in 2011), one of the strands of this album seems to be the music itself. Quoting the lyrics from Cookies, "I believe in songs." In a recent interview for Impose the band says: "We make pop music in a non-simple way. There are many layers in our songs, but yes, basically our music is funny and weird lyrics with dancing & romantic melodies." Given that we can define romantic: "Letting go has not really been something I've been good at," rather than a key to the whole album is a poetry manifesto. The sound of Les Man Avec Les Lunettes, besides the usual comparisons with Belle & Sebastian (not to mention the band's love for the Beatles and the Beach Boys), recalls some Scandinavian indie-pop, and indeed in these songs it's easy to find traits of Jens Lekman or the Concretes. The non-common skill (that this album has in abundance), is to be able to combine all these elements in a single moment, and... Make It Happen!
